Need a reason to go to France? What about some good wine? Or their world-famous delicious cuisine? Maybe the laid back and romantic French culture? No? Are these not reason enough to go to France? Well, what about hiking in the stunning mountains in the French Alp region?
Numerous hiking trails start from the town of Chamonix. In the summer and fall, many of the ski-lifts take hikers up the mountainsides. In many of them, cute puppies like me are allowed.
My mama likes hiking and takes me into the mountains a lot. I have sniffed many a hiking trails and slopes in the French Alps. Sometimes the paths are so steep that no one, human or dog, can walk up them with ease. In several places, the authorities have bolted little steps and ladders into the steep walls.
When I was younger and came to a difficult section of the path, my natural instinct was to beg for mama’s help. I would stare at her with my big beautiful eyes and make endearing squeaky sounds to signal that I wanted her to lift me past the difficult sections.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/0Ly8zNDrwxM”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”1374″ img_size=”full”][vc_single_image image=”1342″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]But this tactic didn’t work on my mama. She wanted me to learn how to handle myself in the mountains, so instead of coming to my rescue, she lured me to find another route in order to get past the difficult section.
Mama’s tactic worked, and now I’m proud to be quite the mountain-climbing Poodle. I put even the ‘real’ mountain dogs to shame with my impressive endurance and sporty style of getting past obstacles in the mountains.
The second-best thing in the French Alps, after the hiking paths, is the mountain huts. The French have built lovely guesthouses in the most unlikely places far into the mountains, many kilometers from the nearest road. In many of them, puppies like me are welcome.
Even though the leg-warmers look rather silly and don’t give my beautiful legs justice, they work really well for protecting my fur from the devious snow-balls.
For protecting my feet and toes, mama bought a special grease at the pet-store that is made to protect little paws like mine. That stuff really works as well.
Long live playing in the snow! And long live persistent mamas who are dedicated to finding solutions!
There is another video of me playing in the snow with my best dog-friend in the post called Pompe Having the Time of his Life with Best Friend.
If you want to read more about traveling in the French Alps with a dog, mama has collected a bunch of information on the page Plan a Trip – French Alps. For example, she shares information about whether dogs are allowed on public transport and what to expect when it comes to finding accommodation that accepts dogs.
