This past weekend, mama took me, Pompe the TravellerDog, to Öja, a small island at the end of the Stockholm archipelago.

Öja is a small island far out in the Stockholm archipelago. People have lived on this rugged little island for a long time. Sweden’s oldest light house is on Öja. Dating back to the 1600’s, the light house Landsort is well worth a visit.
The ferry-ride to Utö is nice and passes many small islands and you see many birds.

We spent the day walking and sniffing the island that is home to many cute old wooden fishing cottages and abandoned military infrastructure. There are old canons on the soft granite cliffs, all pointing to Russia. You can also discover bunkers, light houses and other military structures.
We had a great day and I was exhausted at night, too much bird-watching in one day!
